NSCI Researcher Dr. Sally Temple receives 1.9 Million Dollar Grant from NIH
Rensselaer, NY — Dr. Sally Temple of the Neural Stem Cell Institute has been awarded a 1.9 million dollar grant from NIH. Neural stem cells are grown in culture in order to reach a critical number of cells that will although their use in a clinical setting. This grant proposes to study specific genes that are involved in this neural stem celll expansion process. Acheiving a clinically relevant number of stem cells will be critical for using these cells in a therapeutic setting.

As the only independent, non-profit stem cell research institute in the US, NSCI aims to harness the power of stem cells to ease suffering caused by injury and disease of the brain, spinal cord and retina. NSCI is led by MacArthur Award winner Dr. Sally Temple who helped discover and define nervous system stem cells. Dr. Temple recruited leading researchers from around the world to help translate discovery research into new therapies for CNS repair including age-related macular degeneration, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease.
